JORD – 100% natural wood watches

Plants. Wood. Carbon. Why are these words so intrinsically important to our civilisation, and our species survival?

If you haven’t yet heard, the Human race is currently producing more carbon than the planet can handle. Humans produce carbon. Plants produce oxygen. It used to be a perfectly balanced scenario in an atmosphere that was likely to stay relatively stable for another 40,000 years before the Earth was due for another ice age.

When I was recently sent a beautiful JORD watch to sample, a light bulb went on in my head. Is veering away from using petro chemicals and plastics, and and choosing carbon neutral wood products a way to lessen ones carbon footprint?

I’m pretty sure the answer is YES. Wood not OIL. All natural, carbon neutral, compostable, sustainably sourced WOOD.

Whilst the watch industry moved from using metals into predominantly plastics over the past 30 years, a new generation of wrist watches have recently emerged to enlighten the market with a sustainable material – timber. One company leading the way is JORD. (Swedish for Earth, Soil, Land)

So what does a timber watch feel like to wear? And how sturdy is it compared to a metallic or plastic wrist watch?
I have to say, timber on skin actually feels quite great. It’s light, smooth, and your wrist doesn’t feel like it’s sweating or unable to breath in warm weather.

The timber is really durable and tough, and because of it’s light weight, I imagine it would be quite hard to break if you accidentally dropped it.

Oh, did I mention how nice these watches look on? I have to stay, I feel a little chuffed wearing this little baby!
