17 Oct Cupro
WHAT IS CUPRO? Cupro (Cuprammonium rayon) is a rayon fabric made from cellulose (an important structural component of the primary cell wall of green plants).
HOW IS IS MADE? Pulp from wood plants such as cotton are dissolved in cuprammonium solution (ammonia and copper oxide).
WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE? Cupro is very similar to rayon, is very fine, and has a silk like handle. It has similar properties to rayon, however breathes naturally on the body like cotton.
WHAT IS IT USED FOR? Often used for draping, Cupro is a vegan alternative to silk.
WHAT ARE ITS ECO-BENEFITS?
• Vegan (no animals are harmed in it’s making)
• Resistant to stretching out of shape (increasing the longevity of the garment)
• Can be washed in water instead of dry cleaned (another downfall of silk)
