Once Was Lost

Once Was Lost

Once Was Lost is the beautiful creation of husband and wife team, Andy and Laura Wortlock. Launched in 2013, the brand’s ethics and values have been steadfast from the outset. Andy and Laura believe “fairly traded products should also be the most beautiful’ and they decided ‘”the most effective way to overcome poverty and inequality in developing nations was to provide opportunity”.

The ethically produced pieces offered by Once Was Lost are characterised by their simplicity in design, functionality and natural aesthetic. When the business was launched,  I was taken by the stunning, charcoal Maya throw and have always been grateful for the quality and versatility of this piece. I have used it as a bed throw, a picnic blanket and a shawl!

The collection features a range of homewares, including handmade baskets created by artisans in Kenya and handwoven cushions and throws from Ethiopia.  The production processes involved in the creation of the products are featured on the site, providing information about the story behind the products, including the impact on sustainable employment opportunities for the artisans.
