23 Aug Pallet Furniture
I can’t get enough of pallet furniture at the moment. Every where I look, I seem to see pallets laying around on the side of the road, behind buildings, and stacked up against dumpsters.
I have this flaming desire to collect each of these and started dismantling them, sanding them back and stacking them in sizes. I might be able to gather enough to build a day bed, a gazebo, or even a small cottage.
I love the idea of this little pallet cottage. I can see myself hanging out in this one when I need some “alone time”!
Taking it one step further are two students from the University of Vienna. The aptly named “Pallet house” is a pretty clever creation, reusing pallets to form a modular, energy efficient and affordable kind of housing.
Pallets can make for a great building material. Usually made of hardwood, they are durable and cheap to obtain. Make sure when you are building with pallets that the wood hasn’t been treated with any nasty chemicals such as formaldehyde. Check out this handy write up if you are thinking of crafting with pallets.
What do you think of pallets as a building material? Love it or hate it?
